Matthew Hillier

Matthew recently joined the Citizen in late 2024. He grew up in Calgary, Alberta and moved around landing himself in an acreage and a small town, and of course, Calgary itself. He attended Mount Royal University and received a bachelor's degree in Broadcast Communications. Mount Royal is also where he got his first job in print, at their newspaper ‘The Reflector’. This gave him the creative freedom & collaboration with his classmates and the experience of seeing his writing and perspectives touch others made him fall in love with the medium.

His internship was spent writing articles and doing morning weather broadcasts for 104.5 More Country, a local radio station in Strathmore. Matthew also has experience as a contract writer for a company Urban Writers where he specialized in writing self-help books for clients.

Being a reporter has been his dream job ever since his first writing experience at The Reflector, and was thrilled to make the move to Prince George to become a part of the Editorial team at the Prince George Citizen.
